SpaceX rocket poised for flight to space station

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) ? A private rocket is poised to blast off Friday on a supply run to the International Space Station.
The unmanned Falcon rocket is owned by the SpaceX company. The Dragon capsule on board is filled with more than a ton of space station supplies and experiments.
Good weather is forecast for the 10:10 a.m. liftoff from Cape Canaveral, Fla. It's a one-second launch window.
NASA is paying SpaceX to deliver cargo to the space station, and bring back science samples and other goods. This will be the company's third delivery mission.
There's no ice cream this time for the six space station astronauts. The freezers are full. But SpaceX included fruit straight from the orchard.
SpaceX founder Elon Musk hopes to fly people aboard a modified Dragon capsule by 2015.

Japan exempts F-35 components from arms export ban
TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan has decided to allow defense contractors to make components for F-35 stealth fighters despite its ban on arms exports, strengthening security ties with the United States at a time when Tokyo faces a bitter territorial row with Beijing.
Japan in 2011 picked the radar-evading combat aircraft, made by Lockheed Martin Corp, as its next-generation fighter, and said Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd, IHI Corp and Mitsubishi Electric Corp would take part in production and maintenance.
But there have been concerns that sales of F-35 jets with Japan-made components to countries like Israel could infringe on Japan's self-imposed ban on weapons exports since one of the key pillars of the ban is not to export weapons to countries that are involved in international conflicts.
Israel is expected to acquire the jets amid tensions in the Middle East.
"In light of a major contribution Japanese companies' participation in F-35 production will make to our security ... and on the precondition that the United States implement strict control (over Japan-made components), we exempt it from the arms export ban," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said on Friday.
The decades-old ban has traditionally kept Japanese defense contractors from taking part in international weapons development programs, making it difficult for them to stay abreast of technological development and drive down costs.
The decision comes at a time when Japan is struggling to cope with a territorial dispute over a group of East China Sea islets with China, which is developing its own stealth fighters.
The row over the uninhabited islands, called the Senkaku in Japan and the Diaoyu in China, has in recent months escalated to the point where both sides have scrambled fighter jets while patrol ships shadow each other.
"Is it possible for Japan not to participate in the production of the F-35? This is a very important issue," Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said in parliament on Thursday.
Japan plans to buy 42 F-35s, with the first four planes due to be delivered by March 2017. A Japanese defense ministry spokesman said this week there was no change to that plan after this year's second grounding of the warplane over a crack found in a test aircraft engine.
The Pentagon said on Thursday it would resume flights of the F-35 fighter jets after no additional cracks were found during inspections of engines in the rest of the F-35 fleet or in any spare engines.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) ? Joe Harris had just scored a career-high 36 points, essentially half of his team's total in a 73-68 victory against No. 3 Duke, and the junior guard was talking about "a team effort" and how the Cavaliers played "sound defense."
Joe, was that the best performance of your basketball career?
"I guess you could say that," he finally allowed.
Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski wasn't quite as reluctant to heap on the praise.
"Harris was fantastic, which we knew he would be. He's just one of the best players in the country," Krzyzewski said. "When you have a guy playing at that level ... it brings everybody up. You know you're playing with a stud."
Harris and Akil Mitchell, who had 19 points and 12 rebounds, combined for 55 of the Cavaliers' points as they celebrated the 11-year anniversary of their last victory over a top 5 team by doing it again on Thursday night.
When Virginia's 16th consecutive home victory was finished, fans stormed the court.
"It's just great," senior point guard Jontel Evans said. "They're the reason we go so hard when we're here. We feed off their energy. They've been great. They've just been unbelievable this year. I've never seen support like this."
Virginia (20-8, 10-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) beat No. 3 Duke 87-84 11 years ago, their last top 5 victory.
This time, Duke never led.
"That's unbelievable right there, that they never led in the game," Evans said.
Curry led Duke with 28 points, all but five coming after halftime, and Quinn Cook had 22, but the Blue Devils (24-4, 11-4) failed to slow down either Harris or Mitchell, whose dominating play kept a sellout crowd giddy all night.
Plumlee finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and three turnovers and several times looked up to see Mitchell dunking over him.
Virginia outrebounded Duke 36-26, and held the Blue Devils to 39.6 percent shooting (21 of 53).
"It was a very, very physical game and we're not equipped to that type of game. We got knocked back," Krzyzewski said.
In the second half, Harris and Mitchell scored Virginia's first 16 points as the Cavaliers built a 64-50 lead with 3:23 left before closing the victory at the free throw line.
Virginia led 28-23 at halftime. Curry hit a 3-pointer to start the second half but Mitchell respondetidzu snt hid HSD TI FIGd with a 15-footer, Harris missed a 3-pointer over Plumlee, but went around him for the rebound and laid it in. As the Blue Devils were missing six consecutive shots, Mitchell hit two free throws, and when Rasheed Sulaimon fouled Harris in the act of shooting, he drew a technical foul for arguing. Harris made all four shots, finishing off a 10-0 burst that made it 38-26.
When Virginia added a 7-2 burst a short time later, the lead was 49-35 with 8:15 left Jnd John Paul Jones Arena was roaring.
The Blue Devils, who may have been looking ahead to a matchup with No. 5 Miami on Saturday, never got closer than nine points until the final minute, when Virginia made 3 of 4 free throws to hold on.
The victory was huge for the Cavaliers, who were in need of a marquee victory to enhance their NCAA tournament credentials. They got it with a fast start and a stifling defensive effort. And the Cavaliers did it despite making only three 3-pointers, more than four below their average, by pounding the ball inside. Virginia scored 34 points inside, Duke just 22.
With its first sellout since North Carolina visited last season, the Cavaliers quickly brought the crowd into the game by scoring the first nine points on their way to a 15-4 lead after 6 1/2 minutes.
The lead got to 18-6 on a three-point play by Harris before Duke settled down offensively.
Curry hit two free throws for his first points midway through the half, sparking a 15-4 burst for the Blue Devils that got them within 22-21 with 4:26 to play. Curry finished it with a 3-pointer, hit only field goal of the half. Duke's only points the rest of the half came on Plumlee's lone field goal of the half.
Jontel Evans steal and layup gave Virginia a 24-21 lead, and was Virginia's first field goal scored by anyone but Harris in more than 11 minutes. Baskets by Harris and Mitchell made it 28-23 at the half.

LUSA?Cup and Super Cup winners East Providence Sports?and LUSA league champion Fall River Sports will help kick off the 2013 season at Riverside Recreation Park?this spring.
The?opening week clash?is a rematch of the 2012 Super Cup contest that saw East Providence claim a 2-0 overtime victory against Fall River on Oct. 21. A date and time for Week 1 meeting has not yet been announced, but will likely be scheduled for either the weekend of Apr. 20 or 27.
Fall River claimed the 2012 league championship with a 15-2-2 (47 points) record, giving the city its first LUSA title since 2001. East Providence finished the regular?season with a 10-5-4 (34 points) mark, good for third place.
In addition to the East Providence-Fall River contest, the league announced the remaining Week 1 matchups on Wednesday. Taunton Eagles and Lindo?s ST will meet at Shores Street Field in Taunton, Mass., while Lincoln Club and Casa Do Benfica NB are set to square off at Guiterras Field in Brisol, R.I. Cranston PC and Benfica Washington Park round out the Week 1 slate at Volunteers Field in Cranston, R.I.
The league also announced the draw for the LUSA Cup, which is slated to kick off in September. The matchups include Casa Do Benfica-Lincoln Club, Fall River Sports-Lindo?s ST, Benfica Washington Park-Taunton Eagles and East Providence Sports-Cranston PC.

And justice for all? Hardly.
It tells the story of a terrible crime compounded by a grave injustice that's been remedied, but only in part, so it's impossible to have a single or simple response to the movie.
What sets this film apart from previous efforts to document the story is that Jackson and Walsh financed a private investigative team with legal and forensic experts who re-examined old evidence, conducted new interviews and found new witnesses.
Happy, sad, inspiring, infuriating, right and terribly wrong, all at the same time.
Berg's film is as much an indictment of the state of Arkansas' legal system as it is the prosecution.
Berg's film helps illuminate a case that should certainly be the shame of the state of Arkansas, and perhaps the criminal justice system of the entire United States.
Berg lays out her case with the logic of a first-rate prosecutor and the theatricality of a born storyteller.
Good to know these guys are finally free.
West Of Memphis isn't afraid to show us the graphic nature of the crime and more importantly, it isn't afraid to point fingers at those whose actions deserve to be questioned.
It's reasonable to question whether the time and resources poured into this project might have been better spent highlighting a miscarriage of American justice that nobody knows about rather than one that enjoys a celebrity profile.
The most intense, nail-bitingly suspenseful thriller franchise "from the dark side" these days is not the product of a screenwriter's imagination.
The most intriguing and worthy aspect of this accomplished documentary is that it never lets anyone forget the biggest tragedy of the many threaded through this story - the helpless children who never deserved the brutal fate handed to them.
Somewhere along this narrative's mammoth timeline, examining the construction of modern social heroes became more important than the memories of three little boys.
Together with the rich material comprising interviews with family and friends, the footage shot in the various court rooms and at the crime scene is riveting
A powerful, touching and very infuriating documentary, although Berlinger and Sinofsky got there first and did it best
Amy Berg's West of Memphis does bring new information to light, which is why this somewhat procedural feature is so important.
In all, the director has assembled a powerful film, but the celebrity component feels rather unnecessary.
A frankly extraordinary document about the three innocent children who were murdered in West Memphis, Arkansas and the three innocent teenagers who spent 18 years in prison for the crime.
(Director Amy) Berg's doc is gripping, often infuriating, but in the end hopeful about the ability of truth and innocence to prevail thanks to the efforts of those who strive against all obstacles to uphold them.
The new film is largely a recap of the older ones, with more celebrity testimonials and fewer Metallica songs but little fresh insight into the miscarriage of justice it chronicles.
Extols the efforts of celebrities to win the release of three innocent men [and is] suspenseful when it's straightforward-the best CSI investigation that money can buy.
Nearly overwhelms you with hopelessness, if not an adrenaline rush of rage - even if you're familiar with the case.
