LUSA?Cup and Super Cup winners East Providence Sports?and LUSA league champion Fall River Sports will help kick off the 2013 season at Riverside Recreation Park?this spring.
The?opening week clash?is a rematch of the 2012 Super Cup contest that saw East Providence claim a 2-0 overtime victory against Fall River on Oct. 21. A date and time for Week 1 meeting has not yet been announced, but will likely be scheduled for either the weekend of Apr. 20 or 27.
Fall River claimed the 2012 league championship with a 15-2-2 (47 points) record, giving the city its first LUSA title since 2001. East Providence finished the regular?season with a 10-5-4 (34 points) mark, good for third place.
In addition to the East Providence-Fall River contest, the league announced the remaining Week 1 matchups on Wednesday. Taunton Eagles and Lindo?s ST will meet at Shores Street Field in Taunton, Mass., while Lincoln Club and Casa Do Benfica NB are set to square off at Guiterras Field in Brisol, R.I. Cranston PC and Benfica Washington Park round out the Week 1 slate at Volunteers Field in Cranston, R.I.
The league also announced the draw for the LUSA Cup, which is slated to kick off in September. The matchups include Casa Do Benfica-Lincoln Club, Fall River Sports-Lindo?s ST, Benfica Washington Park-Taunton Eagles and East Providence Sports-Cranston PC.
